Physics is that interesting discipline that no one wnats to get into. It’s hard. It requires math to husband with physics, and both subjects are hard. They require application; the ability to stay in one place for extended periods of time and think. Frightening isn’t it.

I remember that during prelims a graduate student posted example prelim questions on the Physics bulletin board:

  • Prove the Universe and give three examples.
  • Using Halley’s comet as a reference point, calculate the motion of the second hand on a conductor’s watch on a train going from New York to Los Angeles (3,000 mi, 4,828 km),
  • Perform an emergency appendectomy on yourself using a table knife and fork.

We get old, memories dim, but I still find it funny.

The difference between an Engineer and a physicist is that an engineer says that a tolerance of 10-6 is too ‘loose’ and a physicist says that a measurement of 10+3 from desired result is close enough. And there you have it; a matter of perspective.

Here are a few books and articles on physics. Too few, in my estimation, and I will try to get more. I hope that they are interesting.
